South Korean tech giant LG Electronics partnered with US automotive software firm Cerence to create an AI-powered connected car platform. The companies’ solution will merge LG’s webOS-based automotive infotainment operating system (OS) with the Cerence ARK voice assistant platform. For context, webOS is the OS that powers LG’s lineup of smart devices. LG and Cerence will sell the software to automakers, which can tailor it to their specific needs. Cerence, formerly part of software company Nuance, will be an invaluable partner for LG, as it has experience working with major automakers including GM, BMW, Toyota, and Ford. LG’s tie-up with Cerence will enable it to establish a large footprint in the automotive market by giving automakers the features they need.
