One thing I’ve noticed is that it’s so common, unfortunately, to compromise when it comes to our financial situations.
We’re afraid to set boundaries. We’re afraid to be picky with how our money comes to us.
But when you’re not picky, you’re just going to keep getting the same results you’ve always gotten.
- You’ll get the same old clients with the same irritations
- You’ll get the same type of boss at work, job after job after job
- Money will be just as hard to make as it always has been
A lot of times these limitations are so built in to who we are, we don’t even realize we’re acting according to an old subconscious program, which we have the freedom to challenge at any point if we’d just think to do so.
We don’t realize that we don’t have to compromise — that we’re allowed to make money on our terms, instead of defaulting to how we’ve always done it.
You Take Yourself With You
I have an aunt who used to complain how she was taken advantage of at work. No matter where she worked, inevitably she’d start complaining that she did all the work and wasn’t recognized for it.
Once I learned about the law of attraction, I realized that this was a pattern she was perpetuating. Everywhere she went, she took herself with her.
That means, she had the subconscious expectation of being taken advantage of, and so at every job, she was taken advantage of.
The Universe responds to your beliefs and expectations. If you expect that you’ll be underpaid and overworked at your job, then you will be. If you expect that your clients will be cheap and not want to pay your prices, that’s exactly the type of clients you’ll get.
Think about the types of jobs you tend to get, or the types of clients/customers that your business tends to attract.
Do you see a pattern? If so, it’s very possible — even likely — that they are just responding to your own subconscious beliefs.
This even applies to how you make money in general.
Does money feel free-flowing and effortless? Does it feel like it comes to you easily?
Or does it feel like you have to work really hard to get even a small amount?
Again, money responds to your expectations. If you change your expectations, money will react differently to you.
For some people, money just shows up whenever they need it.
Yet for others, they always seem to be living on the edge, just a missed paycheck away from poverty. Indeed, 40% of Americans find themselves in this very situation today.
Stop Being Willing to Compromise
It doesn’t have to be this way. You get to choose.
But in order for you to change it, it requires you to be picky.
It requires you to exert your right to choose how you want your life to be.
If you don’t want jobs that underpay and overwork you, stop accepting jobs like that.
I know, they’ll seem like the only options at first. Everything you find will pay next to nothing and have unreasonable expectations.
So keep looking.
Or if you didn’t realize the job would be like that until it was too late, then quit.
Or if you can’t quit, start looking for another job immediately. Since you won’t be in a rush to find it, you’ll have the freedom to be pickier about the job offers you accept.
If you feel guilty for leaving your current job, well, get over it. You obviously aren’t a match if they aren’t providing what you need, so by leaving, you’ll free them up to find someone who is more a match to what they’re looking for.
Or if you have a business, be picky about the types of clients you accept.
Don’t accept clients out of desperation or fear, just because you really need the money.
If a client starts being overly difficult, fire them. There are plenty more potential clients out there, and by firing a difficult client, you free up the energy to find your ideal client.
But even with clients who are 90% perfect, you have to demonstrate your own boundaries.
I keep a strict schedule for my business. If a client asks me to schedule outside of my available hours, the answer is “no”.
If a client starts showing up late to our meetings, I let them know that this isn’t acceptable.
The bottom line is, you get a choice.
But you have to stop being willing to compromise on what you want. Be selfish enough to only accept life on your terms. If you don’t, you’ll just keep getting the results you’ve always gotten.
The Vibrational Aspect
But these are just the action steps, and it will often require more than that.
Because at the root of it, we’re not dealing with an action problem. We’re dealing with a vibrational problem.
You carry these beliefs and expectations with you. And, as long as you do so, the Universe will do its utmost to prove those beliefs as true. That’s the law of attraction at work.
So maybe you try to find jobs that respect your work-life balance and pay you better, but you literally can’t find them because you don’t truly believe they are possible for you.
Maybe you try to find clients that respect your boundaries and are happy to pay your prices, but you can’t find them because you honestly don’t believe they exist for you.
This is why I’m so happy to be able to discuss the law of attraction here, too, because it really is the primary player in all this. Without fixing this aspect of things, you’re just going to have your beliefs validated, over and over again.
So it requires asking yourself what you really want, and then being willing to focus on that.
What’s the feeling of being well-paid at work, in an environment that gives you the freedom to shine?
What’s the feeling of having well-paying clients that respect your boundaries?
Focus on that feeling. Every time your mind defaults to thinking about “how it is” (i.e., how you expect it to be), remind yourself that you’re creating a different outcome, and feel that feeling of having what you want.
You are the creator of your reality. You don’t need to just accept things the way they have always been. You get to choose.
And the way to really start changing the results you get is to change your own vibration on the subject, first.
Once your own mindset changes, reality must change to reflect that back to you.
You’ll start seeing more jobs that more closely match your new vision of what you want.
You’ll start getting more clients that better match that vision, or your existing clients will magically start treating you the way you want.
And you’ll wonder why it couldn’t always have been this easy.
But, of course, it’s because you didn’t allow it to be.
Stick persistently to your new vision of how you want your life to be, and life will match your vision. You’ll easily get the well-paying job, or the perfect clients.
And then in time, that will be your new default. You’ll not be able to imagine how it was ever any other way.
Money on Your Terms
All of this applies to your relationship with money, too, as mentioned above.
If it’s always seemed like a struggle to make a lot of money, you get to change that.
But you must be willing to first believe that something else is possible, and feel the feeling of that possibility.
What if money could be easy? Just what if?
I put this into its own section because, in truth, money is separate from the job or the clients that seem to bring that money.
When you believe the only path to abundance is a better-paying job, or more clients, or a more successful business, you limit yourself, and you make yourself dependent on those means.
If you honestly feel like you’d be destitute without your job, then you won’t feel like you have the freedom to be pickier.
If you feel like that one big client is too valuable to fire, or even to set boundaries with, then you’ll feel like you can’t really have it the way you’d like it to be. It’s not “realistic” enough.
But your level of abundance — the amount of money you allow into your life — is just another vibrational issue.
If you could really be secure in your feeling of abundance, then even if the job disappeared tomorrow, or your business collapsed overnight, something else would take its place.
For now, I’m just teasing this idea because I know it’s a hard one, and I plan to have many future posts on it.
Just be open to the idea that the amount of money you have is independent of how that money actually comes to you.
And if right now money feels hard to earn — like you have to fight for every cent — know it can be different.
Start to feel the feeling of money that flows easily to you.
When your mind focuses on how hard it is to make money, remind yourself that you can choose differently, and go back to that feeling of easily-flowing abundance.
In time, more opportunities will present themselves. Just like with anything else, life has to reflect back to you how you feel, so as you start to be open to the idea of money that is easier, life will match that, too.
Again, you get to choose. You get to have life on your terms. You are the creator of your reality.
All you have to do is to be pickier about what you’ll accept from life, and to really, honestly believe it can be different.
